Music forms a significant part of life at St Christopher’s School, where the majority of pupils practise at least one instrument. It is an art form that inspires creativity and teamwork, whilst developing sensitivity and self-confidence in pupils.
There are several opportunities for pupils to perform throughout the year, aside from during class music lessons, including regular year group and informal concerts, the Christmas Concert at Hampstead Parish Church, ‘Around St. Christopher’s’ and various year groups’ productions. A team of ten professional musicians visits the school to provide individual instrumental and theory lessons throughout the week and an ABRSM examiner visits us every term.
All pupils have drama lessons and from Year 4 they are taught by a drama specialist. We consider drama to be a fundamental part of the pupils’ education. It fosters teamwork and confidence; encouraging pupils to speak clearly and correctly. LAMDA lessons
are available for older pupils.
Art and Design is considered essential subjects and taught by a specialist from Year 3 upwards. All pupils are encouraged to observe different styles of art; supported by visits to London galleries and museums. Drawing technique is a formally taught component of the art syllabus. History of Art is introduced in Years 5 and 6 to develop pupils’ appreciation of fine art.
